Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 14, 2026.

All About French (“we,” “us,” or “the Site”) operates allaboutfrench.net, a French language learning, culture, travel, cinema, food, and history publication. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have — including how advertising and cookies work on this Site.

1. Who we are

The Site is an informational blog and magazine-style static website. Our contact email for privacy matters is hello@allaboutfrench.net. If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland, that address is also how you exercise GDPR-style rights described below. If you are a California resident, see the CCPA/CPRA section.

2. Information we collect

We may collect: (a) information you voluntarily send via the contact form or email (name, email address, message content); (b) technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, and referring URLs; (c) cookie and similar identifiers placed on your device as described in our EU Cookie Policy and USA Cookie Policy; and (d) advertising-related identifiers used by Google AdSense and its vendor partners when you consent to advertising cookies (where consent is required) or as otherwise allowed by applicable law.

3. Google AdSense and cookie-based advertising

This Site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense and authorized third-party ad vendors may use cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies to: show ads, measure ad performance, limit how often you see an ad, detect fraud and abuse, and — when personalized advertising is allowed — interest-based advertising based on browsing activity across this Site and other sites participating in Google’s advertising ecosystem.

These technologies are non-essential. In the EEA/UK and similar jurisdictions, we ask for your consent through our cookie banner before non-essential advertising cookies and ad scripts load. If you Reject non-essential cookies, we will not load AdSense personalized advertising scripts for that browse session preference stored in localStorage (and you can change your mind later).

Third-party ad vendors participating with Google may collect or receive data such as cookie IDs, IP address, and page URL. Google’s use of information is governed by Google’s advertising and privacy documentation. You can learn more and manage ad settings at Google’s Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) and review vendors via Google’s ad technology provider lists where available.

4. How users manage ad preferences

You can: (1) use our on-site cookie banner Accept / Reject controls and the “Cookie settings” link in the footer to revisit choices; (2) use Google Ads Settings to control personalized ads associated with your Google account; (3) use industry tools such as the Network Advertising Initiative or Your Online Choices (EU) opt-out pages where applicable; (4) enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) or similar browser opt-out preference signals — for California visitors we treat a detected GPC signal as a request to opt out of “sale”/“sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as described in our USA Cookie Policy; and (5) block cookies in your browser (note that blocking all cookies may affect basic site features).

5. Why we process data

We process data to operate and secure the Site, respond to messages, understand aggregate readership, comply with law, and — with a valid legal basis such as consent where required — deliver advertising that funds the publication. We do not sell email addresses from the contact form as a standalone mailing list product.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Essential cookies (or localStorage keys) may remember cookie preferences so we do not repeatedly ask you mid-session. Analytics or advertising cookies only load according to your choice and regional rules. Detailed category descriptions appear in our EU Cookie Policy and USA Cookie Policy.

7. Retention

Contact emails are retained as long as needed to respond and for legitimate business record-keeping (generally up to 24 months unless a longer period is required). Server and advertising logs retained by third parties follow those vendors’ policies. Cookie lifetimes vary by vendor; preference flags we store locally remain until you clear site data or change settings.

8. Sharing

We share data with processors and vendors who help run the Site (hosting, security, email delivery if used) and with advertising partners such as Google when ads are enabled. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

9. International transfers

Vendors such as Google may process data in the United States and other countries. Where GDPR applies, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards described by those vendors (for example Standard Contractual Clauses) where required.

10. Your rights (EEA/UK)

Subject to law, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and you may withdraw consent for optional cookies without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

11. California privacy (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information, and to limit use of sensitive personal information in certain cases. Advertising cookies used for cross-context behavioral advertising can constitute “sharing” and, in some cases, a “sale” under California law. Use the cookie banner Reject option, footer Cookie settings, or GPC to opt out of sale/sharing for advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising CCPA rights. Email privacy requests to hello@allaboutfrench.net.

12. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where consent age requires), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

13. Changes

We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after updates constitutes notice of the revised Policy, except where consent is separately required.
